Interviewer: As a student at Duke University, what is your projected major, and what would you do if there was no music in your future?
Well, I always knew music was going to be part of my life, I didn’t know if it was going to be as a producer, artist or songwriter. I didn’t realize until about a year ago that I could do all three, and really kill it with all three. At the same time I was open and still am open to getting some kind of job within the music industry. I’m starting my own publishing company, production company and I’m gonna sign other artist to that that I think are dope. There are so many dope people out there that don’t get a chance. For the most part, record labels don’t go out and find people that have nothing going on and sign them. That’s not how it works anymore, because that cost too much money for them, you know what I mean? Record labels wait until you start getting something going yourself, and then they jump on later, and they maximize it, that’s the business that they are in. I’m interested in helping people that are super talented get to the point where I’m at or maybe even a little farther where I’m at, and then we can bring it to the label and bring them in.
Mike Posner’s mixtape “A Matter of Time” has been in on my iTunes playlist rotation for a while now. I would definitly say it is in the top five mixtapes of ‘09 category. Creatively, his music is a fusion of musical elements that are familiar to the ear, but his raspy tone is what really makes him unique. Whenever an artist can flip a record like “Halo” or “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” and make you enjoy a song you didn’t like before, you know they are on to something. All of his artwork is very well done which compliments the music nicely. After the jump check out Mike & Big Sean tearing down a show at Duke.
